Leadership by example is simply displaying your qualities for others to follow. Real leaders always mean what said, they are the leaders who will walk the talk. They are doers and not talkers. They are the opposite of Leadership by authority.

A leader is simply someone who has the courage to set the example. When you are a leader, you are constantly under watch, nothing you do or say will escape the scrutiny and examination of your followers. Your activities and attitudes will be the example you have set for them.

There are leaders of some health products network marketing companies, while sharing their products or opportunity to a prospect at the same time puffing his cigarette away. What kind of a signal is he sending out? He is promoting good health and on the other hand yet destroying his. He is contradicting himself and how can he set an example for others to follow? 

Every action, every gesture and every movement is a signal for others to follow. Can your beliefs, words and actions inspire others? As a leader, setting the example comes first. You as the leader are accountable for every thing you do. Everything you do must be transparent and display fairness to all. 

Another example every leader should always display is gratitude. It is necessary for a leader to cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes into his life. Be grateful to your mentors, family, the company you represent and all those who have helped you to where you are now. When you are grateful, you are setting an example for your people to follow.
