To become a true business leader, being positive is not enough. We need to think beyond our acceptance, to the realm of “Possibility Thinking”. There are unlimited possibilities to which anything is possible. Space travel and cracking the DNA code are just two of the innumerable achievements of science that were once believed to be impossible.
Possibility thinkers are not concerned about who they are or where they come from, they are focus on who they can become. They are creative in nature; they believed that moving forward and become optimistic in their thinking will lead them to who they want to be.
In 1975 a young and inexperienced movie Director went to see a special effects expert in
The young Director did not give up as he needed to make the impossible possible. He founded his own special effects company and called it Industrial Light and Magic. Over two years of trial and error the movie that he has in his mind was finally a reality. “Star Wars” was born and it was the most technologically innovative movie ever made and the most profitable one.
Today he is known to be one of the greatest movies Director of all times. He is George Lucas.
Possibility thinking involves a conscious acknowledgment of the potential that we have in our minds both as individuals and as a congregation. It drives all of our actions and behavior. It is not about just a positive attitude but a “Possibility Thinking” attitude. A “Possibility Thinking” attitude is an attitude of anything is possible. It is an attitude that is measured by a large amount of determination, discipline and the act of accepting changes.
“Possibility thinking” attitude is also the “Why not, let’s do it” attitude. Many a times we come up with idea and it has never taken off the launching pad all because of the lack of this attitude. “Possibility thinking” is so extremely important in the success of everything we do. Modeling this attitude of “Possibility Thinking” is very important to becoming a great business leader as it can influence others to think the same and work together towards a common goal holding the possibility of a miracle.
“Everyday holds the possibility of a miracle” - Elizabeth David

I like the concept of possibility thinking. Frankly there is far to little of this in most businesses. Many managers seem to be too invested in maintaining the status quo as if their identity depended on it or something. Oh yes to some it does.
Disruptive change can be introduced into a business system if done correctly. It requires courage and confidence to lead. Just as importantly it requires vision on what possibilities could be brought to life. It also requires the empathy to lead a team through the change and enable them to be successful through the process.
I still remember Star Wars as the most influential movie I have watched. Lucas was masterful in bringing that concept to life. What might have been had he given up the fight… Thankfully he perservered.
